Sun Devil Snapshot: Soccer players drafted, women's basketball on a roll

Women's basketball, women's soccer and hockey headline the weekend

Soccer players found post-collegiate homes, tennis secured an upset and women’s basketball got its 12th straight win. Here are the top stories from the past three days:

Two ASU soccer players drafted by NWSL teams

Senior forward Cali Farquharson and senior defender McKenzie Berryhill were drafted into the NWSL by the Washington Spirits and Portland Thorns, respectively.

Farquharson is second all-time among ASU soccer players in goals with 44. Her 102 points were also second-best in Sun Devil history.

Berryhill was twice named to the NSCAA All-Region and Pac-12 team during her career, defending ardently and helping a 4-0 team start in her senior season.

Women’s basketball picks up two wins, owns 12-game win streak

Women's basketball defeated Colorado and Utah this weekend to increase its win streak to 12 games.

Still, junior forward Kelsey Moos thought their consistency during games could’ve been better.

“Consistency is something that we're still working on," she said. "We're really focusing on not just having two good quarters, but four good quarters on both ends of the floor."

Men’s basketball falls to Washington

For ASU’s men’s hoops, the weekend wasn’t as fruitful. They fell 89-85 to Washington, just shy of a victory, to the dismay of fans and head coach Bobby Hurley.

"We didn't start the way you need to start at home," Hurley said. "We dug a hole for ourselves. Our offense wasn't functioning well. We didn't execute."

Tennis’ Desirae Krawczyk upsets two ranked opponents

Krawczyk upsets three ranked opponents en-route to a win at the Palm Springs Invitational, good enough for The State Press first-ever Player of the Week award.

The senior women’s tennis player is a native of Palm Desert, and said it felt good to perform like that near her home.

“It's a great feeling to win a tournament at home with my family and closest friends out there to watch, so it was something special," Krawczyk told TheSunDevils.com after the match.

ASU Hockey struggles continue, team loses 13th straight

With their 13th straight loss and fourth-straight scoreless defeat, ASU hockey is continuing the learning process in its first Division I season.

Hockey was swept in their two-game series at Bemidji State University, losing 5-0 and 2-0 in that order.

Their next two games are exhibition games, a two-game home series against Ohio.

Track and Field beats four schools in Flagstaff

Northern Arizona, San Diego State, Southern Utah and UC Irvine suffered defeats courtesy of ASU.

Both the men’s and women’s teams finished in the top-half rankings at the end of the Lumberjack Team Challenge, thanks in part to strong performances by senior sprinter, Reggie Lewis and senior sprinter, Jasmine Gibbs.

Men’s Swim and Dive team wins, women suffer defeat against Wyoming

ASU’s men's Swim and Dive teams beat the University of Wyoming, but the women fell to Wyoming by seven points.

“With a few extra points here and there on my form and entry, I was able to be successful," sophomore diver, David Hoffer said. "I have been working on some new dives and they worked well for me today."

The Sun Devils’ next and final home meet is against the Arizona Wildcats on Feb. 6.
