Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:
A 51-year-old San Diego woman was arrested Nov. 28 on the 5000 block of South Arizona Mills Circle on suspicion of shoplifting and marijuana possession, according to a police report.
Tempe Police were notified of a shoplifter at the Solstice Sunglass store inside Arizona Mills Mall, according to the report. Mall security responded to the store to assist employees with searching the woman and the she returned a pair of sunglasses, police reported.
When officers arrived, the woman began walking away from the store while an investigating officer was inside speaking with an employee, police reported. The woman was subsequently detained in handcuffs, according to the report.
The woman admitted to stealing the sunglasses even though she was financially able to pay for them, police reported.
Further investigation on video surveillance revealed that the woman had actually stolen two pairs of sunglasses while she was in the store, according to the report. The value of both pairs of glasses totaled $498, police reported.
During a search of the woman's purse, officers found a small but usable amount of marijuana inside a plastic sandwich baggie, according to the report.
The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
