ASU softball head coach Craig Nicholson resigned Monday due to personal medical reasons, per Jeff Metcalfe of azcentral sports.

In 2016, the program will be led by assistant coaches Letty Olivarez and Robert Wagner, and a new head coach will be hired after the season.

Nicholson was 82-34-1 in two seasons at ASU and led the Sun Devils to two NCAA appearances.

Prior to arriving in Tempe, Nicholson coached at Ball State, where the Cardinals were MAC champions four times in his seven-year tenure.

In 20 total seasons as a coach, Nicholson amassed a career record of 1046-286-1.
