ASU hockey ends Connecticut road trip winless with 3-0 defeat to Sacred Heart

The Sun Devils were outscored 13-1 in three games on the East Coast

ASU Hockey Robert Levin WarmUp

Junior goaltender Robert Levin warms up for the Sun Devils before ASU hockey's game against Arizona on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at Gila River Arena in Glendale.

ASU hockey went winless on its Connecticut road trip after a 3-0 loss to Sacred Heart in Danbury on Saturday.

The problem of converting power play opportunities remained as ASU (1-4) failed to score on any of its man advantages.

But the game was closer than the score indicated. Each team had 26 shots and freshman goaltender Ryland Pashovitz had another solid performance with 23 saves, nine of which came in the first period.

Regardless, the Pioneers (1-2-1) were 2-for-8 on their power play opportunities, and added another goal on an empty net near the end of the third period when ASU was trying to rally.

The first goal was scored by Evan Jasper at the 2:45 mark in the third period. With about seven minutes to go, Joey Raats—who has three assists this season—almost put himself in the scoring column when he hit the pipe and just about brought the Sun Devils level.

In addition, Sacred Heart won 15 more face offs than the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils were outscored 13-1 in the three games on their East Coast trip. In two of the three, ASU was outshot. Also, they have only scored one power play goal all year.

ASU returns to Tempe to play a two-game tilt against Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 23 and 24 at Oceanside Ice Arena. The team will look to get back on track in those two games before it heads to Madison, Wisconsin, to play two games against the Wisconsin Badgers.
