ASU swim and dive coach Bob Bowman can add something new to his already-impressive resume.
Bowman, who was hired on April 24, was named as the 2016 U.S. men's Olympic swim coach Wednesday.

"It is an incredible honor to be asked to lead our Olympic Team and I am truly grateful for this opportunity,” Bowman said in a statement. “I take this responsibility very seriously and will strive to help each team member be at their very best in Rio. There is much work to do, but I am confident that Team USA will again represent our great nation in an exemplary fashion.”
Bowman is no stranger to the Olympic stage as he currently serves as the coach for several Olympians, notably Michael Phelps. Phelps, who has an Olympic-record 22 total medals (18 gold) in his career, is among the several athletes who have followed Bowman to train in Tempe.
Bowman has also served as an assistant to the U.S. Olympic team three times.
The newly-named coach's Olympic obligations should not directly interfere with his obligations as ASU's head coach, as the swimmers will compete for spots on the team from June 26 to July 3, and the pool competitions will take place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, from Aug. 6-13.
