The ASU women's soccer team played Beijing Normal University to a scoreless draw in an exhibition game in Tempe Sunday morning.
Sophomore defender Taylor Coon played a team-high 73 minutes, an anomaly in a game where senior forward Cali Farquharson logged 23 and senior defender McKenzie Berryhill only played 16.
"Just being able to get my fitness up by playing all these minutes is awesome," Coon said. She also said that the large amount of minutes is helping to improve her touch.
Both teams had opportunities to put their side ahead but neither could take advantage of the chances presented to them.
"I think we should have scored at least one, maybe two," Boyd said.
ASU struggled to finish inside the penalty area and only had two of their eight shots land in the goalie's hands.
"That was a wonderful training environment for us," Boyd said. "They're good, they moved the ball very well and they keep great shape."
Boyd said that the game gave his team the opportunity to improve in areas that needed work.
"They've got good ideas in the attack and it made us have to defend a certain way and shift which was very good for us," Boyd said. "We've got to address when we get the ball how we keep it and connecting with each other."
Redshirt sophomore Ashley March started at goalkeeper for the Sun Devils (she appeared in just one game last season) and recorded four saves, including a diving stop of a Beijing Normal header attempt in the 82nd minute.
Goals were absent in @ASUSoccer's draw with Beijing Normal, mainly because of Ashley March. #12Best Moment #Pac12WSOC http://t.co/O860xCR0WG
