Tempe police reported the following incidents Thursday:
A 30-year-old Phoenix man was arrested July 18 on the 300 block of Mill Avenue for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, false reporting to law enforcement and failing to appear on two warrants, according to a police report.
Police approached the man as he was riding his bicycle along Mill Avenue, disregarding the signs that prohibited it, police said.
Upon contact, the man gave a false name and date of birth to police officers who ran it through dispatch and found no record matching that name and date of birth, according to the report.
The officers asked the man’s girlfriend, who was with him at the time, what his real name and date of birth were, and she answered truthfully, police said.
When the correct name and date of birth were put through dispatch, it revealed that the man had two warrants for his arrest, one from Phoenix and one from Scottsdale, according to the report.
The man was placed under arrest and a search of the man’s person was conducted, police said.
The search revealed that the man’s backpack contained a small bag of methamphetamine, a glass pipe and approximately 381 tablets of the narcotic drug morphine sulfate, according to the report.
During an interview, the man admitted to lying about his name because he knew he had warrants, police said.
He also admitted to having smoked some of the Methamphetamine prior to contact with law enforcement, adding that he intended to smoke the rest later, according to the report.
The man further stated that he did not know what kind of pills he was in possession of, but he intended to use them once he figured it out, police said.
The man was transported and booked and held in Tempe City Jail on false reporting and warrants and release pending on the drug charges.
