Report: Jaelen Strong has fractured bone in wrist

Jaelen Strong

Redshirt junior wide receiver Jaelen Strong pulls in a three-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter of ASU's game against UA at Arizona Stadium in Tucson in the 88th Territorial Cup on Nov. 28, 2014.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, citing sources, former ASU wide receiver Jaelen Strong has a fractured bone in his wrist, which Rapoport says likely needs surgery.

In two seasons with ASU, Strong had 157 catches for 2,287 yards and 17 touchdowns. One of his bigger concerns entering the draft was his speed, but he answered that with a 4.44 40-yard dash time at the NFL combine.

Strong is attempting to be the first Sun Devil taken in the first round of the NFL draft since Terrell Suggs was selected No. 10 in 2003 by the Baltimore Ravens.

In ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest mock draft (updated April 9), Strong was projected to go No. 18 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs, the fifth wide receiver off his board.

The first round of the NFL draft is April 30, and will be held in Chicago. Strong will be in attendance.

Update (2 p.m.)

Jaelen Strong said he got the injury on Nov. 1 and played five games with it. ASU defeated Utah 19-16 in overtime that day.

Still, Rapoport said teams want a status update on the bone in his wrist.
