Even though it is only a few weeks into the semester, I have found that getting back into the swing of things hasn’t been easy. While it isn't always the case, one would think that watching Netflix would be a distraction. It always helps take my mind away from the stress and gives my mind a little break so I can be more productive later. When I am feeling overwhelmed, sometimes you just need a feel-good movie to put you in the right mindset.
This week, I felt like watching something obscure and light-hearted. After diving deep in the depths of the Netflix abyss, I stumbled upon Girl Most Likely. Seeing Kristen Wiig on the cover quickly grabbed my attention. Like many others, I became a Kristen Wiig fan after her appearance on SNL and later Bridesmaids. So having her face on the cover lead me to believe that I was in for a hilarious treat. Usually you can tell the quality of the movie by the actors that are in it, and the other name that popped up was Darren Criss. Now I have never been a fan of Glee, but Darren Criss is just beautiful! The only thing I could hope for is that he might actually sing in the movie because he has the voice of an angel.
I decided not to read the bio and just go for it. Sometimes it’s best not to have any expectations when watching a movie, that way there’s no room for disappointment. Now don’t worry, I won’t give away any spoilers, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised. The movie had a lot more elements to it than I would have imagined. There was humor, romance, and sentimentality. It definitely watched like a movie from an indie film festival; the humor was a tad dry, but not in a bad way, and there were feels galore. Plus, you get to see Darren Criss singing the Backstreet Boys.

I really enjoyed the movie, but it’s definitely the kind of movie you have to be in the mood for. If you’re looking to "LOL", maybe hold this off for another night. This is more of a “grab a pint of Ben & Jerry’s and enjoy the ride” kind of movie. Don’t get me wrong, it has its fair share of funny moments, but you won’t be rolling on the floor. And though Rotten Tomatoes only game the movie a 21%, which doesn’t sound too promising, it was definitely worth watching. So if you find yourself in a Netflix-movie conundrum or you just need a little break from studying, I think Girl Most Likely should be on the list.
