SPM Beauty: 5 Minute Wake up and Makeup

Whether you’re running late or just having a lazy day, this 5 Minute Makeup can give you that boost of confidence without slaving away for an hour in front of your mirror. In the YouTube beauty community, there is a tag video called the 5 Minute Makeup Challenge, in which beauty gurus are asked to put on a full face of makeup in less than 5 minutes. I’ve personally never tried this before, but I think it’s a challenge that could be extremely helpful for those of us who are often on a time crunch. Here is my approach to the 5 Minute Makeup Challenge!

1) Foundation: Whether it’s a powder, cream or liquid, applying a foundation all over your problem areas can really give your complexion a little boost. If you have some areas that need a little extra coverage, try concentrating your base a bit more there than everywhere else. I find that using my hands for liquid foundation applies and blends more quickly than using a brush. For cream, try using a sponge. For powder, a kabuki brush works best when on a time crunch.

2)  Eye Shadow: Apply a metallic eye shadow, or even one that has duo chrome if you have any. My personal favorite is MAC Cosmetics eye shadow in Woodwinked. Applying this all over the lid gives the eyes a glow. Because this eye shadow is metallic, when applied in the socket it almost appears darker, giving the entire look more dimension. You can purchase this at any MAC Cosmetics counter, freestanding store or online at .

3)  Blending: Apply a matte eye shadow that’s either your skin tone or a little lighter to your brow bone to blend away any harsh edges of the metallic eye shadow. In the video, I use one from the Wet n Wild Vanity palette, but any shadow you have or even a face powder will work. You can get this Wet n Wild palette from any drugstore.

4)  Liner: You can opt for a pencil or gel liner; however, when in a hurry I like to use black eye shadow to line my top lash line. Because it’s a powder, you don’t have to worry about making a crisp line or forming that perfect wing. Eye shadow as liner is significantly less stark than normal liner. I used an eye shadow from the Wet n Wild Lust palette, which you can get from any drugstore.

5)  Powder: After your foundation has had some time to settle into the skin, apply a face powder with a large powder or kabuki brush to set it and add a little extra coverage. The bigger the brush, the less time it will take. My favorite powder foundation is the Studio Fix Powder from MAC Cosmetics. You can purchase this at any MAC Cosmetics counter or a freestanding store.

6)  Lashes: Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. I use one from Japonesque, which can be purchased at ULTA Beauty. Also, apply your favorite mascara to accentuate your lashes and cover any eye shadow or face powder that may have gotten on them.

7)  Cheeks: Applying a shimmery blush cannot only give your skin back some of that natural flush you cover with foundation, but it also gives your complexion more of a  glow. Normally, I use a highlighting powder to do this separately, but when I’m in a hurry a shimmery blush does the trick. My favorite blush to use is Benefit Coralista blush, which can be purchased at ULTA Beauty or Sephora.

8) Lips: Tinted lip balms were created with students in mind. It’s the easiest to apply because it’s less saturated than lipstick and has moisturizing capabilities, allowing you to skip the lip balm. Some of my favorite tinted lip balms are the Revlon Lip Butters and the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, which can both be purchased at ULTA Beauty or any drugstore. If you’re looking for a high-end option, the Clinique Chubby Sticks are very similar and work just as well. Clinique Chubby Sticks can be purchased at Sephora.
