To celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, PINK at ASU is partnering with the Sun Devil Fit Club to hold a yoga promotion event on Oct. 22.
The club will offer yoga classes and raffle off tickets for Victoria’s Secret apparel, with all proceeds going toward the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
PINK at ASU connects young women at ASU by promoting the Victoria’s Secret PINK brand.
Design studies junior Kaitlyn Mahon has been a member of PINK at ASU since her freshman year.
She said there are six members who plan all the events.
Mahon said the club’s biggest turnout each year is at its breast cancer awareness yoga promotion.
More than 100 people attended the event last year, and the club expects to have more this year.
“We like to have events that will not only benefit our club by getting new members, but also the community in which we reside,” she said.
Mahon said she did not wear Victoria’s Secret’s PINK clothing until she joined the club and bought one of their ASU shirts.
“I read about (the Victoria’s Secret PINK) club online and ever since then it was just a club I wanted to be a part of,” she said.
Graphic design junior Michelle Hughes, who is in her second year as a campus representative, said she has had a great experience with the club.
“I absolutely love working with PINK at ASU,” Hughes said. “These are all fun, outgoing women who are passionate about PINK.”
PINK at ASU holds other community service-oriented events throughout the year.
Hughes said every year the club holds a clothing drive at ASU for the Chrysalis Center, a rehabilitation shelter.
She said last year ASU students donated more than 10,000 articles of clothing.
“We are thrilled that the students are so passionate about giving back to the community,” she said.
This is the club's first year back on campus after it missed the deadline to register last year, campus representative and communication junior Molly Magill said.
She said the club wants to start having weekly meetings to plan more events for girls at ASU.
“It’s a chance for girls to let loose and get rid of the stress of college in a fun atmosphere,” Magill said.
