Broke's the New Black: Sweating It Out While Looking Cool

There are those of us who want to make a trip to the gym as quick and painless as possible forcing us to conceal our identity with a baggy t-shirt and baseball cap. Then, there are those of us who purposely put on an extra layer of make-up and wear a push-up bra to flaunt around the weight room floor. The goal of this blog post is to find a happy medium between the two. You can look cute while still maintaining a serious workout demeanor.

Girls are lucky because the combinations of cute workout clothes we can throw together are infinite. Not only can we buy every color imaginable, we can pair tops with bras with pants with shorts, etc. (You get the idea)

We all know that if you shop at Nike or LuluLemon, chances are your workout wardrobe is gonna rock harder than your running playlist. So for us girls on a budget, what are options for us to look cute without the designer labels?  We don’t need to resort to raggy old T-shirts when cheap active wear is readily available.

One of my favorite destinations for clothes on a budget, Forever21, now has an active wear line.  Both in the store and online, their gear is cute and affordable.  From personal experience, it’s decent quality, but don’t plan on it lasting you for the long haul.

Another place I have found a secret treasure of great work out clothes is Target. I seem to lack luck in all other departments at this superstore, except the active wear aisle! They have a wide selection of colors to choose from, and I’ve found the clothing’s durability here is better than other lower end brands.

When looking for gear, especially new sports bras, look for spandex or nylon blends instead of cotton. Not only does the durability hold up longer and create better support, the bright colors won’t fade as easily with the rigorous washing. It also makes for a more breathable material.

Got a collection of unused T-shirts?  Check out an upcoming blog to see easy tutorials of what you can do to make a plain T-shirt into a unique and fun top!
