The main portion of the ASU tennis season occurs in the spring, but for one player in particular, this winter weekend is huge.
Thursday through Sunday, ASU sophomore Kelcy McKenna will be competing alongside the country’s best and against the world’s best at the International University Challenge of Tennis in Poitiers, France.
The competition includes players from eight countries: the U.S., Great Britain, France, Belgium, Montenegro, Ireland, Russia and Switzerland.
“I’m so excited not only to be representing ASU, but to be representing the country,” McKenna said.
The teams are made up of three male and three female competitors. McKenna earned her spot on the team in early October after she won the singles title at the ITA All-American Championships.
Each country will compete in a best-of-seven format that consists of two men’s and two women’s singles matches, one men’s and one women’s doubles match and a mixed doubles match.
McKenna said she will be competing in all three types of play.
